KENT ROLLER DERBY

Kent Roller Derby were the first competitive league located in the county of Kent. Like most other roller derby leagues in the world, we follow a

for the skaters, by the skaters” ethos and all matters are run exclusively by members of the league. We are financed entirely by members and we rely on donations and subscription to maintain our league.

The league itself was established in 2010 with the first practice taking place in July at Herne Bay on the historic pier. Created to bring flat-track roller derby to this little corner of England, KRD is made up of an eclectic mix of people of all ages and all backgrounds. We have grown from a handful of members to participating in games against both national and international teams.

KRD encourages people of all backgrounds to participate, regardless of ability and we are all dedicated to helping each member reach their goals. All members of the league are encouraged to play a part in the running of the league, whether it be fundraising, promotion, merchandising or recruitment and all members are encouraged to have their say.

In line with the WFTDA Gender Policy, all those who identify as women, trans women, intersex women and/or gender-expansive may train and compete as skaters of Kent Roller Derby if women’s flat track roller derby is the version of roller derby with which they most closely identify. All genders may train as skating and non-skating officials, and join as non-skating members in other capacities.

Kent Roller Derby are proud to be a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) and follows the current WFTDA rulesets.

KRD V WILTSHIRE GAME PROMO (2022)

In the run up to our home game against Wiltshire Roller Derby, we made a promotional video to get people excited about experiencing roller derby live! This video was used with footage from our bout with Brighton Rockers back in November 2022.

#KentGirlsCan (2017)

Kent Sport visited Kent Roller Derby open day on 12 March 2017 for the #KentGirlsCan campaign. Over 20 new skaters came along to see what roller derby is all about and have their first taste of this great sport. Later in the evening, the senior Kent Roller Derby team played a practise scrimmage to demonstrate the sport to the new recruits! #KentGirlsCan is all about celebrating women and girls across Kent and Medway who are getting active and doing their thing because it makes them feel good - not because of what anyone else thinks. The campaign is part of the national #ThisGirlCan campaign. Check out KentSport.org/KentGirlsCan or ThisGirlCan.co.uk for more information.
